Antonio Pereira Nobre (1867–1900) is one of the best Portuguese poets of the late 19th century, about whom Fernando Pessoa, a symbol of modern Portuguese literature, said: “When he was born, we were all born.” Antonio Nobre was the first to reveal to Europeans the soul and national way of life of the Portuguese. Autobiographical themes and motives are the main material with which the poet operates; they, like the geographical space of his poems - the villages and cities of his native land, sparkling in his poems with magical colors - are transformed into myth. Until now, Nobre was unknown to the Russian reader. Died of tuberculosis before the age of 33, he published only one book during his lifetime. This edition presents its complete translation, performed by Irina Feshchenko-Skvortsova. Commentaries on the poems help the reader to better understand the atmosphere of Portugal at the end of the 19th century.
