The Nani people live on the banks of the great Far Eastern Amur River, more often they are called Nanais. They refer to the northern peoples of Russia. Once a year, Nanais gather for a big holiday. Masters of national sports compete there, kayak and omorochka races are held, exhibitions of decorative and applied arts are held, local chefs surprise people with dishes prepared according to great-grandmothers’ recipes, and storytellers tell both children and adults legends, fairy tales and pasts. to begin a fairy tale, the narrator must pronounce an interjection-spell: “Ka-a! Ka-a!” According to legends, it protected the story from busyaku - mythical creatures similar to our devils. Words, as the Nanais believe, have magical powers, and if an evil spirit hears them, it can, as it were, “infiltrate” them, prevent good from defeating evil, change the fate of not only the heroes of the story, but also those who listen to the storyteller.
