Young journalist Igor Ankudinov, after graduating from university, goes to work in the north of Kamchatka - in the Penzhinsky region, known throughout the world for the powerful tides at the mouth of the Penzhina River. It was through this area that a detachment of the first Russian pioneers Vladimir Atlasov once walked to Kamchatka. Among the Cossacks there was also a certain Ankudinov, either a relative or a namesake. Igor Ankudinov went to work at the editorial office of a small regional newspaper in the north of Kamchatka, because he hoped that the profession of a journalist would allow him to travel around these places and, perhaps, find some traces of the pioneers.
