This publication publishes for the first time a course of lectures on social philosophy by the famous philosopher M.K. Mamardashvili (1930-1990). In these lectures, he sets out his understanding of sociality and traces the complex relationships between the structure of society, its functioning and thinking. In no other text does the author so directly and consistently assert the dependence of thinking on inclusion in relationships with other people, on what he calls “community” and “co-existence.” The talk in the lectures is not so much about the social order itself, but about what is the repressed, invisible condition of this order, about those forces of coexistence of people that cannot be reduced to the functioning of state institutions, and even what is called civil society. The book will is of interest not only to philosophers, but also to a wider circle of educated readers.
