Code of Byzantine evidence from the 9th–15th centuries. about Rus' presents historiographical, historical, literary sources, onomastics of personalities, geographical terms and other data, handwritten materials, inscriptions, seals containing information about Rus' and Russians. There is no analogue of such a work, summarizing source studies on Russian-Byzantine issues, in world practice. Preparation of a consolidated lexicon of materials from Byzantine sources of the 9th–15th centuries. in Russian history is the result of many years of study of the topic by the author of the work, reflected in a number of publications. The corpus nature of this study involves the analysis of not only the evidence of materials already known to science from Byzantine chronicles, historical memoirs and acts, but also monuments of rhetoric, epistolography, personal notes of medieval authors, poems and poems that are difficult for historical interpretation. The collection also introduces handwritten notes into scientific circulation , colophons and marginalia containing evidence of Rus', data from unpublished late Byzantine sources. The historical and analytical part of the work is devoted to the source interpretation of evidence about the Slavs and Rus', starting with the Anta and Varangian-Russian problems and ending with a review of materials from the Athonite archives of the late Byzantine period. The reference section contains a brief description of all the sources under study with justification for their dating, attributions, and a statement of the main directions of controversy in controversial cases of their identification. Unlike similar collections on other regions (for example, “Byzantino-Turk” by D. Moravcsik), terminological material is intended to be presented not in isolation, but in a macro context.
