The book is the next edition of the Collection “Ancient Sources on the History of Eastern Europe”. This edition of Byzantine historical works is dedicated to the Byzantine historian of the 12th century. John Kinnam - an eyewitness and participant in the events he described. The evidence concerns Russian-Byzantine relations of that period, diplomatic, dynastic, political connections of Rus' with neighboring states and Byzantium, and the history of the south of our country. These data allow us to draw significant conclusions on the ethnogeography of Rus' and the Black Sea region, on the history of the formation of various ethnosocial communities on their territory. Analysis of ethnic, political, topographical and geographical terminology is the most important element of the book. The Greek text (in fragments) is published for the first time from a Vatican manuscript of the 13th century, the earliest surviving copy, the readings of which are different from the existing edition by A. Meinecke.
