The book “The Night of January 16th” includes three works by Ayn Rand, written over the years: “The Night of January 16th”, “The Ideal”, “Think Twice”. They have one thing in common - brightness and unusualness. Ayn Rand's dramaturgy is an extraordinary phenomenon. It is characterized by an interest in modern problems, fast-paced action and completely unexpected turns. Critics have repeatedly noted that Ayn Rand allows the viewer to guess the course of events, but every time, having guessed, the person realizes that he was mistaken. In her works, thought and action are closely fused. These are not cookie-cutter detective stories. The philosophical ideas of the characters serve as real motivation for them and encourage them to take action, which in turn concretizes the meaning. The earliest piece, “The Night of January 16th,” has gone through many productions in America. Standing apart is the work “Think Twice”, which was written five years after “The Ideal”; this is the work of a mature writer, in which all the features of her style can be traced. The theme reflects Ayn Rand's characteristic approach to ethics: it reveals topics that concern her, such as the harm of altruism and the need for independent human existence. Ayn Rand's dramaturgy will undoubtedly find its reader and viewer in Russia.
