For the first time, a series of three detective stories by Bernhard Schlink, the author of the famous “Reader,” is being published in Russian. “Selb’s Farewell” is a new novel about private detective Gerhard Selb, who has aged a little, but has not lost a single grain of his tart humor and masculine charm. A chance road acquaintance with the owner of a respectable private bank brings Selb a new, seemingly easy order: he has to find the trace of the bank’s so-called secret partner, lost after the war. An ordinary archival investigation grows into a serious story with financial scams and money laundering, murder and kidnapping, dark spots in the past and mafia showdowns in the present. Not every young investigator can do this, but Selb is not used to stopping halfway, even if this case threatens to put an end not only to his career, but also to his life.

Герхард Зельб, головний герой, втілює в собі всі риси, які ми любимо в детективних персонажах: він розумний, харизматичний і має свій унікальний стиль. Розслідування, яке починається як просте архівне, швидко перетворюється на заплутану історію з фінансовими аферами, вбивствами та мафіозними інтригами, що тримає в напрузі до останньої сторінки. Шлінк чудово передає атмосферу часу та місця, а також глибину людських відносин, що робить цю книгу не лише детективом, а й соціальним коментарем. Рекомендую всім, хто цінує якісну літературу та захоплюючі сюжети!
