The publication presents the third collection of the English writer and veterinarian James Herriot, whose name is now known to readers all over the world, and his works have been translated into dozens of languages. In this book, the author revisits the funny and endlessly touching stories of his four-legged patients - wise and amazing - and recalls the early years of his veterinary practice in Darrowby, beyond which the outlines of Thirsk appear, now home to the world-famous James Herriot Museum. The book also includes stories about how, after a short family life, a young veterinarian found himself in the role of a newly minted pilot of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain and made his first independent flights. The book was first published in Russian in 1985 (as part of the collection “About All creatures - large and small"), with the omission of individual fragments and entire chapters. This edition publishes the complete translation with restored notes.
