Modern English writer Josephine Tay (present name Elizabeth Mackintosh, 1897–1952) is a classic of the detective genre. In the novel “The Hoax,” the main character, having agreed to participate in the fraud, unwittingly reveals another, much more dangerous crime. In the second work, his hero Robert Blair, the head of a small law firm, unexpectedly becomes involved in an unusual case involving the kidnapping of a girl. Novels are published in Russian for the first time.
