The main philosophical work of Evald Vasilyevich Ilyenkov (1924-1979), which brought the author international fame. The book examines the patterns of theoretical thinking in the context of the logic of the development of political economy as a science. The subject of the study is the specific historicism of categorical characteristics of thinking. The monograph shows that the criticism of political economy by K. Marx is meaningfully connected with the identification of historical and philosophical prerequisites for the formation of scientific theory in general. The most important features of the scientific method of research are directly revealed in the analysis of the concepts of abstract, concrete, contradiction, historical and logical. E.V. Ilyenkov’s book is being published in its entirety for the first time. The lifetime (1960) edition (incomplete, subject to severe censorship) was translated into major European languages. To this day, the work remains relevant. The main ideas implemented in Ilyenkov’s monograph still arouse interest in various fields of scientific knowledge today.
