The novel “Bloody Danube” is the third book in the “Odyssey of Captain Savushkin” series, which tells about the actions of the long-range reconnaissance group of the General Staff of the Red Army in the capital of Hungary on the eve of and during its siege. Scouts were sent to Budapest to find out the situation with the defensive positions of the Hungarians and Germans around the city and to understand the composition of the garrison of the Hungarian capital. Before the eyes of Savushkin’s group, the epic canvas of the storming of Budapest unfolds - the only event of its kind in the history of the Second World War; even the storming of Berlin lasted much less time. Thanks to the help of city residents, the scouts manage to complete the command's mission and stay alive - alas, not everyone. But thanks to the selfless courage of Savushkin’s boys, the Soviet command finds a vulnerable point in the city’s defenses - and strikes at it; Budapest is surrounded, and no attempts to relieve the blockade bring the Germans success. But the destruction of the city during the battles and the death of many of its civilians remain on the conscience of the German-Hungarian command of the garrison - however, thanks to Savushkin’s intelligence officers, he is unable to escape responsibility for his crimes...
