The volume contains selected letters from Boris Pasternak from 1954 to 1960. - the last years of his life. They reflect the final stage of work on the novel Doctor Zhivago, which he considered his main work and explained its meaning, language and meaning to many addressees. The political persecution associated with the release of the novel abroad and the awarding of the Nobel Prize to Pasternak (1958) appears in the letters in all the tragic truth, revealing to the reader half a century later the determination, courage and inner freedom of the position of Pasternak, who did not understand “how you can imagine yourself as an artist and get off with what is permitted, and not take big risks, joyfully and immortally.” Until his last days he worked on the drama about the fate of art under serfdom and responded to hundreds of letters from all over the world. Letters in English, German and French are translated by E. B. Pasternak.
