The author's title of the play is “The Beauty from Linen”, it is included in the “Linen Trilogy”. “Beauty from Linen” under the name “Beauty Queen” was staged at the Vakhtangov Theater, hence the new Russian name of the play.

This is what the Irish playwright McDonagh thinks and writes about. He writes mercilessly truthfully, bitterly and very funny. His plays are deeply spiritual, they are written with love for man and with pain for him. The events described take place in neighboring houses in an Irish village. In “The Beauty Queen,” an old, helpless mother and a lonely and unhappy daughter fight to the death for their happiness. The temperament of both heroines goes beyond all conceivable limits, so the showdown looks either a farce or a real “kitchen action movie”. Any means are used, from banal scandals to showing papers from a mental hospital and dousing them with boiling oil.
