Blessed Augustine (Sanctus Aurelius Augustinus) (354-430) is the greatest of the fathers of the ancient Church (doctores ecclesiae) of the Christian West, who had a huge influence on the entire further development of Christian thought, ethical views and church structure. This book presents mainly theological treatises of St. Augustine: “On the Concord of the Evangelists” (in which Augustine gives an interpretation of the most controversial passages from the New Testament, trying to prove that there was and could not be any disagreement between the evangelists) and “On the Book of Genesis” ( dedicated to the literal interpretation of the first chapters of the Book of Genesis). The main purpose of this work was to show the continuity of the books of the Old and New Testaments. The appendix contains early editions of individual chapters of this book, which allows, when compared with the author's later edition, to trace the evolution of the views of Augustine the theologian. The publication opens with one of Augustine’s later works, “Enchiridion Laurentius on Faith, Hope and Love,” devoted not only to philosophical and theological, but also to ethical issues. The book uses translations of the Kyiv Theological Academy, carried out by professors of the Academy with great textual care and with excellent knowledge of the church and theological realities of early Christianity. The texts are printed in a modern edition. For the widest range of readers.
