Blessed Augustine (Sanctus Aurelius Augustinus) (354-430) is the greatest of the fathers of the ancient Church (doctores ecclesiae) of the Christian West, who had a huge influence on the entire further development of Christian thought, ethical views and church structure. The versatility of St. Augustine’s talents and the scale of his personality are fully consistent with the total number of works he wrote—93 in 232 books. This volume presents the early and predominantly philosophical works of the holy father. An extensive philosophical and dogmatic treatise “On True Religion (against the Manichaeans)” and the famous, stunning “Confession” are also presented. The book uses translations of the Kyiv Theological Academy, carried out by professors of the Academy with great textual care and with excellent knowledge of the church and theological realities of early Christianity.
