The action of the novel “The Promised Land” by a classic of Polish literature and Nobel Prize winner Władysław Reymont (1867–1925) takes place in industrial Lodz in the second half of the 19th century. The writer paints vivid pictures of the life and morals of Polish society, which has embarked on the path of capitalism. The plot centers on three friends Karol Borowiecki, Max Baum and Moritz Welt, who start their own business - the construction of a textile factory. The main events of the novel unfold around this, an intrigue is woven, which involves dozens of characters: manufacturers, bankers, merchants and resellers, engineers, workers, office workers, doctors, society ladies and girls of marriageable age. From the noisy workshops, the writer leads the reader to the luxurious palaces of the rich, to the pubs where businessmen indulge in drunken orgies, the boudoir of socialites, makes him a witness to business meetings and love scenes. A new translation of the novel is published.
