The story “A Lonely Voice on a Starry Night” tells about the “Holodomor” in the early thirties on the Upper Don, that is, about something that the archives were silent about for a long time. The “Holodomor” in these years, which engulfed the grain-growing regions of the USSR, was caused by the collectivization of agriculture, opposition to this phenomenon on the part of the majority of the peasantry, brutal pressure on it from the party elite and the beginning of industrialization. The Bolsheviks, led by Stalin, decided to cut this tangle in one fell swoop, without understanding who was right and who was wrong. The only person who spoke out against such a policy and the cruel methods of its implementation was the great Russian writer Mikhail Sholokhov.
