In the last decade of the 11th century from the Nativity of Christ, a real threat of devastation loomed over Russia, especially its southern lands. The Polovtsian Steppe, having come into force, seriously took up its northern neighbor, which always attracted the khans with the wealth of its cities and marketplaces. Of course, Rus' was stronger than the Steppe, but it had long been mired in strife and petty squabbles between the numerous scions of the grand ducal family of Rurikovich. The grandson of Yaroslav the Wise, Prince Vladimir, many times persuaded his relatives, convinced them to unite and put an end to the Polovtsian threat, but in vain. And then Vladimir Vsevolodovich Monomakh decided to prove himself who is the boss in Russian land!
