Prince Dmitry Pozharsky is remembered for our people as the savior of the Fatherland. And this is not an exaggeration at all! Having led the people's militia in a terrible time of hard times, he snatched Russia from the clutches of foreign rule. Thanks to his great labors and military exploits, the Russian state rose from the ashes, and the first sovereign from the Romanov dynasty ascended to the royal throne. Of course, Pozharsky alone would not have been able to cope with this difficult task; he had comrades-in-arms, and the main one was Kuzma Minin. But it was Prince Dmitry, the only one of the Russian nobles and military leaders of those years, who did more than could be expected from him. He was helped in this by his diamond hardness of spirit, extraordinary directness of soul and selflessness, amazing fortitude, and loyalty to his given word.
