A new book by Abraham B. Yehoshua, one of the most widely read authors in Israel and beyond, includes two works. The novel “The Story of a Divorced Harpist” and the short story “The Poet’s Prolonged Silence.” Noga, a divorced harpist from an orchestra in the Netherlands, returns home for a while after the sudden death of her father. After staying for three months, she finds work: she performs as an extra in films and opera performances. These new activities influence her perception of herself and force the woman to have a new attitude towards music, which has long become something familiar. And if all her life Noga felt like a minor character in someone else’s story, now for the first time she is wondering about her own personal and professional destiny.
