This is the second book in the duology about Benoni and Rosa. In it, the writer continues to develop the life story of the heroes: Benoni marries Rosa, the pastor’s daughter, but the main advantage of the book is in the cheerful pictures of local customs of a small town. Another well-known character appears in the dilogy - Edwarda, Glana’s beloved, who has now become a baroness and after the death of her husband, she returned to Sirilund to her father with her children. The author does not feel any warm feelings for her - she has lost her way, having lost the most important thing in her life - the love of Glan, and now drags out a miserable existence, since her soul has died. Hamsun wrote that the depiction of “the same heroes at different times and under different circumstances” gave him great pleasure. Thus, in “Rose” Munken Wendt appears, who is first mentioned in “Victoria”, and then becomes the main character of the poetic drama of the same name. However, the writer made an unfortunate mistake at first, indicating the time of action in the novel in 1858: this year Edvard Munken's lover Wendt would have turned one hundred years old. Therefore, a correction was subsequently made to the dilogy - an indefinite date was set “18...” Natalia Budur - “Gamsun. The Mystery of Life"
