From an article by A. V. Gulyga (editor of the publication): The book was published under the pseudonym “Bonaventure” at the beginning of 1805 in the series “Journal of New German Original Novels”, published by the Dienemann publishing house. Initially, no attention was paid to it, and only in our century (XX century) did it become widely known: it was seen as an anticipation of the prose of the Expressionists, Kafka, and Hesse. In the last century it was published three times, in the current century - twenty-three. Who is the author of the book? Attempts to answer this question have generated a huge literature and caused controversy that continues to this day. I will introduce the reader to the main milestones of the discussion and try to substantiate my own position. The pseudonym “Bonaventure” belonged to Schelling, and during the philosopher’s life no one doubted its authorship. (Under this pseudonym F.V.Y. Schelling published four poems in the Almanac of the Muses for 1802.) CONTENTS: BONAVENTURE. NIGHT VIGIL. Translation from German by V.V. MikushevichFirst vigil. Dying Freethinker (5).Second Vigil.
