Criminal police inspector Ingvar Stubø is investigating a series of brutal murders in Oslo. The victims are a TV show host, a political party leader, a writer, an athlete. The killer challenges the police, boldly hinting at the motive for the crime: the TV presenter has his tongue cut out, the writer has his expensive pen sticking out of his eye. The inspector's wife, Inger Johanne Wieck, recalls that thirteen years ago, at a lecture on the psychology of criminals, she heard about a similar series of crimes. It ended with the arson of a policeman's house. Will Ingvar Stubø have time to stop the killer if he plans to bring his “remake” to the end?
