Dedicated to the anniversary of perestroika in the USSR. Another part of the multimedia photo publication “Hooligans-80” in I-book format dedicated to the phenomenon of alternative fashion during the period of perestroika and the first half of the 90s. Wildly growing and untamed unofficial fashion, balancing on the verge of performance and design show, appeared suddenly as a chemical reaction between various underground creative groups. New fashion designers quickly won their own space on the rock scene, in squats and on official catwalks. With the beginning of Perestroika, attitudes towards representatives of subcultures gradually changed - from openly negative to ironic and interested. But for quite a long time, ordinary Soviet citizens perceived fashionistas with their provocative dress code in approximately the same way as aliens. Amateur activities in the field of fashion actively flourished among students in the 1980s. New, alternative designers mainly emerged from the ranks of student artistic freedom. Some of them focused on avant-garde artists of the 1920s, without taking into account real fashion and mainly constructing architectural structures from unconventional materials such as cellophane and foam rubber. Adventures of avant-garde artists within the fashion industry, where the names of Soviet designers and artists were intertwined with famous ones names from the global fashion industry - such as Vivienne Westwood, Pak Rabban, Jean-Charles Castelbajac, Andrew Logan and Isabella Blow - ended differently for everyone involved in this movement. Everyone chose their own path. For many, with the arrival of Western gloss in Russia and the new stagnation of the glamorous 2000s, the history of alternative fashion ended. Some became collectors of extravagant and vintage items, others returned to pure art, some were able to gain a foothold in the market as a designer.
