The hero of the novel, an Englishman and avant-garde composer, on the eve of the millennium, his career takes him to post-Soviet Estonia. Here, day after day, he receives news that his wife has finally become pregnant, and he falls in love with a local girl, a waitress and an amateur violinist. But, judging by the development of the plot, a few years later that casual connection will respond to the hero in the most serious way.
