“Day of the Triffids” One evening, London residents watched with interest an unusual phenomenon - a green shower of stars that lit up the entire sky. The next morning, witnesses to the mysterious phenomenon woke up blind, and soon it became clear that almost the entire population of the Earth had lost their sight. Great changes were coming in the world. Those few who managed to preserve their sight receive almost unlimited power and access to the resources accumulated by humanity. But trouble, as we know, does not come alone - and a third force comes into play: triffids, intelligent predatory plants capable of moving and hunting people. A complex security system, created to contain very valuable but extremely dangerous plants, fails, and the triffids break free... “Dolls” A book that made a deafening impression on science fiction fans of the USSR; many seriously believed that the novel was written by the Strugatsky brothers. Moreover, a curious samizdat “translation” called “Christ People” was circulating, in which quotes, borrowings and references to the works of the Strugatskys were inserted into Wyndham’s text. One of the best dystopian works of science fiction of the 20th century! “Deviations from the norm” have no place in the villages of the new Puritans - the descendants of the few who survived the nuclear disaster that befell humanity. Baby animals that show the slightest signs of mutation are destroyed. Human babies are treated “more mercifully” - they are simply sterilized and thrown into the wild jungle, at the mercy of other feral mutants vegetating there. But can the merciless judge-preachers and their fanatical flock recognize all the “deviations”? Unbeknownst to them, children are growing up with powerful paranormal gifts...
