The history of Alsace, a region of small territory and not very important in strategic terms, is a series of seizures and liberations. For centuries it was a bone of contention between Germany and France. For the last 60 years, this area has belonged to the French, but the locals call themselves Alsatians. Thanks to the mixture of cultures, Alsace has acquired a strong personality, which is also reflected in its capital, Strasbourg, a city where, next to a Romanesque cathedral, structures such as the European Parliament, the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights are located. Having a developed industry, being a center of culture and education, the Alsatian capital has retained its provincial charm, which attracts tourists and those for whom the pages of books replace real travel.
