The action of the new novel by Nobel laureate Imre Kertesz (1929) begins where “Kaddish for the Unborn Child” ends (Russian edition: “Text”, 2003). Ten years have passed since the fall of communism. Writer B., a Holocaust survivor in Auschwitz, commits suicide. His friend Kesheryu discovers the play “Self-Liquidation” among B.’s papers. It predicts the crisis in which B.'s friends found themselves, when the hopes associated with the fall of the Berlin Wall gave way to chaos. Slowly, step by step, the secret of B's death is revealed to Kesheru.
