On the other side of the ocean they didn’t dress up in black and brown shirts, but they willingly put on Ku Klux Klan robes. The play-pamphlet was a heavy slap in the face of the well-fed and self-satisfied face of the advertising transatlantic big man, who smiled patronizingly at the French from the pages of illustrated weeklies and propaganda postcards that flooded their exhausted country.
