The Valley of the Creator (1954) was written in a completely different vein, where the traditions of Kipling, Haggard and Burroughs are felt. A country lost in the depths of Asia, an ancient civilization, a detachment of white people hired by one of the rulers of the L'lan Valley for some mysterious purposes... How many times have we already read something like this! But Hamilton found an original plot device here too. Starting from The Jungle Book, he rethought the proud cry of the brotherhood of animals and man: “We are of the same blood - you and me!” What if intelligent beings turned out to be (or thought they were) not of the same blood? Will the hand of some semi-civilized Mowgli reach for a dagger and he will begin to divide yesterday’s brotherhood into “ours” and “not ours”? Alas, everything that happened after this in the novel is also good and painfully familiar to us...
