The restored and deciphered diary of Konstantin Somov (1869-1939), one of the most prominent artists of the Silver Age, a member of the World of Art association, essentially appears before the reader for the first time. The volume included records from the end of October 1917 - beginning of December 1923. Pictures of Petrograd life during the October Revolution, the Red Terror and the Civil War alternate with frank descriptions of the author’s erotic adventures. The diary is accompanied by a detailed commentary. The appendices include various reference materials, as well as a whole scattering of photographs of Somov and his immediate circle. The publication is preceded by an extensive essay on the artist’s life and work, written by Russian art historian Pavel Golubev, who prepared this diary for publication.
