The new volume of Konstantin Somov's diaries covers 1926-1927 - the first years that Somov spent in France. Descriptions of the artistic life of the Russian emigration - dramatic and musical performances, exhibitions - are adjacent to pictures of provincial everyday life in the town of Granville. There, a hundred kilometers from Paris, Somov worked on illustrations for Manon Lescaut, discovered modern European literature, re-read Russian classics, walked or wrote letters all day long. The publication was prepared by Russian art historian Pavel Golubev. The book contains an illustrated appendix and reference materials.
