The Great French Revolution is one of the brightest pages in the history of mankind. Its main events took place in Paris, where the people stormed the Bastille and overthrew the monarchy, where the principles of freedom, equality and fraternity were proclaimed from the rostrum of the Convention, where revolutionaries exterminated each other in a bloody struggle for power. At the end of the 19th century, the famous French historian Georges Le Nôtre first tried to reconstruct the Parisian episodes of the revolution, painstakingly recreating the color of that time, including the layout of houses, furniture and clothing of Parisians. Robespierre and Danton, Queen Marie Antoinette and unknown sans-culottes come to life on its pages. Le Nôtre's book became a classic in France and was reprinted many times. It was first translated into Russian in 1895 by the famous writer Nadezhda Teffi and her sister Elena Lokhvitskaya. For this edition, this translation has been significantly updated and provided with commentaries.
