An address is a little life. Limited not only by geography and time, but also by your favorite things, the view from the window into the courtyard, the lovely homely smells and sounds unique to this place, but most importantly, by the family that fills this house. Before you is a new novel about my next address - Kutuzovsky, 17 and about a time that is memorable for many – the sixties. It's about childhood, about grandmothers, Polya and Lida, about parents who are always away and about an unloved school. When my parents are away, I sleep in my dad’s office, I like everything there - the Hemingway portrait on the wall, the fashionable furniture, the striped rugs and shelves with books. When they finally arrive, they always have guests whom I don’t like - they drink port, eat everything that their grandmothers have prepared, constantly smoke, argue and read poetry. Boring... This is an attempt to dive into the sixties, into that sweet reality when everything was simpler, more humane, kinder and more understandable.
