The first and so far only translation of “Speeches on Religion” and “Monologues” was the result of a “meeting” of two masters of thought: the Russian philosopher Semyon Frank and Friedrich Schleiermacher, the famous translator of Plato, the most famous theologian. The carefully and boldly recreated style of Schleiermacher's books, their passionate and dizzyingly sophisticated rhetoric, draws the mind and language of the reader into an intense dialogue with the thinking and personality of their creator, making us witnesses and accomplices of the emergence of a European universal historical consciousness - and through Dilthey, Husserl and Heidegger – ultimately philosophical hermeneutics and modern subjectivism. The work may be of interest both to specialists and to anyone interested in the history of philosophy.
