The monograph attempts to comprehensively study the transformation of mass consciousness under the influence of the media. From a philosophical position, the concepts of television reality and the massization of society in the 19th - first half of the 20th centuries are explored. The reasons for the increase in manipulation of mass consciousness in the conditions of the modern information society, in which information plays a major role, are identified. Particular attention is paid to Russian television - its structure, new media technologies - specific manipulative techniques used in television programs, as well as ways to counter manipulative processes (“counter-suggestion”). Who controls the masses and can television carry out its activities without resorting to manipulation?
