"John Barleycorn" is a collection of the Scottish poet, folklorist, author of numerous poems and poems by R. Burns (1759 - 1796). ***It contains the author’s poetic works, including “The Poor Man’s Song,” “Above All Things,” and the famous ballad “John Barleycorn,” which is based on folk beliefs about cheerful spirits. This rebellious cheerfulness of Scottish folklore in the first Russian translation was replaced by the Russian epic “Ivan Erofeich the Grain of Bread.” The Scottish peasant turned into a Russian peasant, and the kings became “kings”. Moreover, “Busurman”, strangers. These and other changes gave the ballad a different national flavor. Burns wrote poems, as well as the works: “The Jolly Beggars”, “Tem O’ Shanter”, etc.
