The Saxon Chronicles is a twelve-book literary series written by English writer Bernard Cornwell from 2004 to 2019. The cycle tells the story of the struggle between peoples for the British Isles. This is the period of the invasion of the Danes (Danes and Norwegians) into England, Scotland and Ireland. Local peoples are trying to resist the invaders. The action of the cycle takes place from 866 to approximately 956 (in the latest books the year is not indicated). After the Romans left the islands in the fifth century, Britain was fragmented into many small kingdoms.
