In the early 30s of the last century, Cleveland dentist Weston A. Price began a series of unique studies. He devoted the next ten years of his life to traveling to isolated corners of the planet to study the health of populations untouched by Western civilization. Its goal was to discover factors that are critical to oral health. His research showed that caries and deformations of the dental arches, as a result of which the teeth become too closely set and curved, are the result of insufficient intake of nutrients into the body, and not hereditary genetic defects. The objects of Price's research were, in particular, residents of isolated the world of Swiss villages, Scottish Celtic communities from the Outer Hebrides archipelago, indigenous peoples of North America, the islanders of Melanesia and Polynesia in the South Pacific, African tribes, Australian Aborigines, Maori from New Zealand, as well as indigenous groups of South America. In all cases, Dr. Price concluded that beautiful, straight teeth, the absence of caries, a high level of physical development, immunity to disease and a good disposition were typical of indigenous groups who adhered to their traditional diets rich in essential nutrients .
