The National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo houses one of the finest collections of European painting and sculpture in Asia. The core of the collection consists of works by outstanding masters of the Renaissance and before the beginning of the 20th century, acquired by industrialist and philanthropist Kojiro Matsukata (196 paintings, 80 drawings, 26 engravings and 63 sculptures). The permanent exhibition includes about 4,500 works by Lucas Cranach the Elder, Paolo Veronese, Tintoretto, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Pieter Paul Rubens, Jacob Jordaens, Jacob van Ruisdael, Claude Lorrain, Johann Heinrich Füsli, Eugene Delacroix, Edouard Manet, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Claude Monet , Gustave Moreau, Paul Cezanne, Vincent Van Gogh, Auguste Rodin.
