Siegfried is Richard Wagner's third opera from the Ring of the Nibelung tetralogy (Das Rheingold, Walküre, Siegfried, Twilight of the Gods). The opera cycle The Ring of the Nibelung is usually performed at the festival over three days and one evening. The opera Siegfried lasts about 4 hours and is performed on the second day of the festival. A large period of time separates the events that are narrated in the operas of the Ring of the Nibelung cycle, although this time it is easier to establish how many years have passed since Brünnhilde fell asleep (this ended "Valkyrie"). In the last act of Die Walküre we said goodbye to Sieglinde and she set off on her way to the home of the Nibelungs. There she was found by Mime, the blacksmith, Alberich's brother. There she died giving birth to her son, whom she named Siegfried; Mime became his adoptive father and raised him. Siegfried has grown into a strong, arrogant, harsh young man, he is a child of the forest, enjoys communicating with its inhabitants and despises the dwarf who raised him.
