Silka was only sixteen years old when she arrived at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in 1942. The girl's beauty attracts the attention of senior camp officers, and Cilka is forcibly separated from the other female prisoners. She quickly learns that power, even unwanted power, equals survival. The war is over. The camp has been liberated. However, Silka is accused of espionage and sleeping with the enemy, and is sent to the Vorkuta camp. And here Silka faces death, terror and violence every day. But she is lucky: a kind doctor takes the girl under his wing and begins to train her to become a nurse. In her quest to survive, the girl discovers a willpower she never knew she had. She begins to tentatively form friendships in this harsh, new reality and is surprised to realize that, despite everything that has happened to her, there is a place for love in her heart.
