The Physiologist refers to popular theological works that arose in connection with the Holy Scriptures. This is a teaching book in which the morals and characteristics of animals, birds, stones are interpreted in the form of Christian biblical exegesis. It is believed that the allegorical interpretation in the Physiologist had its background in the school of Origen. The author, time and place of compilation of “The Physiologist” are unknown. Based on indirect evidence, it is assumed that this work appeared in the period from the 2nd to the 4th centuries. Most researchers are of the opinion that the Physiologist has an Alexandrian origin, although there is an assumption that it appeared in Palestine and belongs to Syrian literature. Originating in Greek, “Physiologist” in numerous translations was distributed among almost all peoples of the Christian East, undergoing multiple changes over the centuries. CONTENTS: Preface (5).
