The Yugoslav writer, author of historical novels, turns this time to the events of the eve of the Second World War, the approach of which was “announced” to the Europeans by the northern lights. The novel is permeated with a feeling of anxiety and confusion that gripped people. The subtle socio-psychological analysis is complemented by the grotesque in showing the spiritual crisis of representatives of bourgeois society.
