Slovenia. The Second World War. Before and after. Seen and recreated through the prism of the fate of Veronica Zarnik, who lives contrary to generally accepted rules and canons. The five chapters of the novel are five “versions” of her fate, belonging to different people. Mosaic? Chaos? Or - the author’s tough, defiantly unsentimental view of history, which has no statute of limitations? The life and death of the novel's heroine becomes part of the lives of each of the five narrators until the end of their days. Something similar happens to readers.
