The Battle of Kursk became a turning point in the Great Patriotic War. The victory of the Red Army consolidated the strategic initiative in the hands of the Soviet command and completely undermined the military potential of Nazi Germany, which was no longer able to restore its former power: after the defeat at the Kursk Bulge, the Wehrmacht no longer carried out a single strategic offensive operation. Based on unknown captured documents and previously unpublished materials of the Central Archive of the Russian Ministry of Defense, V.N. Zamulin reconstructs in detail the course of hostilities on the southern front of the Kursk Bulge from July 4 to July 9, 1943. This book is a detailed, day-by-day and hour-by-hour chronicle of the first, most difficult stage of the battle, when Soviet troops, at the cost of colossal effort and heavy losses, managed to thwart the plans of the enemy command, stop the advance of German divisions, and then launch a counter-offensive and drive the enemy to the west.
