Louis-Adolphe Thiers (1797–1877) - politician, prime minister during the July Monarchy, first president of the Third Republic, historian, writer - the history of France has been associated with this name for half a century. Author of fundamental studies “History of the French Revolution” and “History of the Consulate and Empire”. These studies are unique sources, as they were written “hot on the heels” and are based on original archival materials to which Thiers had access due to his high government positions. Both works provide a very detailed history of the French Revolution and the era of Napoleon I to the present day are quoted by both Russian and European historians. In 2012, “Consulate” was published by the Zakharov publishing house. In 2014, for the first time in Russia, there were five volumes of Empire. Now we offer readers “The History of the French Revolution,” which had been published in Russia only once before, by bookseller-typographer Mavriky Osipovich Wulf, from 1873 to 1877. The text is printed without abbreviations, in the new edition of the translation
