Louis-Adolphe Thiers (1797-1877) - politician, prime minister during the July Monarchy, first president of the Third Republic, historian, writer - the history of France has been associated with this name for half a century. Author of fundamental studies “History of the French Revolution” and “History of the Consulate and Empire”. These studies are unique sources, as they were written “hot on the heels” and are based on original archival materials to which Thiers had access due to his high government positions. Both works provide a very detailed history of the French Revolution and the era of Napoleon I to the present day quoted by both Russian and European historians. It is all the more surprising that “The History of the Consulate and the Empire” has never been published in its entirety in Russia. In 1846-1849, only the first four volumes were published - “The Consulate”, which Zakharov republished in a new literary edition in 2012. The second part - "Empire" - was never published! “Zakharov” offers you for the first time in Russian (with some abbreviations) - a century and a half after its publication in France! - this is a fascinating read in a wonderful translation by Olga Weiner.
