The monograph examines the process of formation and crystallization of the ideological views of Nikola Pasic, the largest statesman and political figure in Serbia and Yugoslavia at the end of the 19th - first quarter of the 20th centuries. The socio-economic and socio-political realities of Serbia at that time, which had a direct impact on the formation of his views, are analyzed. A significant place in the work is devoted to the study of the origins of Pašić’s ideology - its connections with the thought of St. Markovic, the ideas of Russian populists and Slavophiles, and European socialists are traced. In contrast to the existing opinion in Serbian historiography, the author proves that Pašić has a complete and coherent system of views regarding the prospects for the socio-economic and national-state development of Serbia, its place in the general historical process. In this regard, he concludes that the figure of Pasic, like a mirror, reflected the features of what Serbia was experiencing in the second half of the 19th century. in many ways a turning point in its history, when the ideas of modernization and traditionalism came into direct conflict. Nikola Pasic's attempts to resolve this contradiction, based on the interests of the Serbian people (as he understood them), were reflected in the ideological system he built.
